Athos does not sigh, but he understands all too well what that means. Rochefort is angry, the son is not the King's, and Athos has seen all too many times the looks Aramis had given to the Queen (and, not a blind man, had seen the ones she gave him in turn). His head aches with the news and it makes him less inclined than ever to return to Paris and cope with this madness.

"I cannot return to the same time as you or her," Athos says, knowing that if he goes back to Paris, it will be his. "Perhaps Porthos? Does he not come from a similar time to you?"
